May – Mental Health Awareness Month

May is Mental Health Awareness Month. Thank goodness people are beginning to talk about mental health issues. Not so long ago, it was taboo to even hint that you may have Depression, Anxiety or PTSD. PTSD was referred to as Battle Fatigue. It’s a bit more serious than “fatigue” would indicate. Any hint of mental illness and you were tagged as “Crazy.” I don’t know about any of you, but I am not crazy. Unusual maybe, silly definitely, but not crazy. I just happen to have had a lot of stress in my life, people close to me passing away, a lot to worry about. It’s not that I don’t want to be back to the way I used to be…carefree, fun-loving, happy to go out and meet up with friends. I would love it!

So please do not be afraid to speak up about mental illness. The more me talk about it the less of a stigma will surround it. Most insurance plans cover therapy if needed. Take advantage of that. Then there are sites like TalkSpace that charge a small fee (compared to seeing a therapist in an office). Don’t be afraid to get the help you need.

Let’s help each other Fight the Darkness!!
